Five for Friday

WOW!! It surprises me that after 8 months of not posting I'm still getting daily visitors, I bet it's because of TPT, which is great and I apologize for not posting more. It has been a heck of a year, and crazy busy week of ARDs (IEP meetings). I have my final ARD on Monday and then there are only 18 days left until summer break. Here is the linky I'm participating in from Doodle Bugs Teaching

1. I have such awesome parents, that I got two Target gift cards for Teacher appreciation week last week. This is these two cute shirts I bought, and two of my kids commented on it "Hey that one is the same color as the other one but is has pineapples" "Hey you have another one". Maybe not direct compliments, but from my kids that is pretty awesome and I'll take it with a huge smile.

2. I am catching up on watching the series Dexter and just finished season three this week. I am watching it on NUVO TV where they are playing the entire series, but two episodes a week. As long as I record it and fast forward through the Spanish commercials its all good. I love this way of watching shows. I may be 8 years late, but two hours a week of such a suspenseful/ drama filled show is great.

3. With summer break upon us, we have began planning for our vacations. We may go to Los Angeles, CA for a family wedding/ extended vacation or a trip to Boston. I have not been to either place, so I don't care where we go, but it depends on husbands job schedule. I will be off course HA

4. I went to the hair cutters and got a little trim (about 4 inches). I wasn't thrilled, because the layers weren't as short as  I wanted. Luckily it was only a $17 hair cut and I can get it cut to look cuter in the fall.

5. Did I mention there are only three weeks left of school!! only 13 1/2 days with students.

Donors Choose Project - There is an Autism App for That

I have started my second Donors Choose Project to help get my students needed tablets. As many of you know electronic devices are some of the highest reinforcers for most of our kids. Right now I utilize the two computers (which I am grateful to have) to teach skills on fun websites such as abcya.com, starfall.com, and jacobslessons. My school district also has invested in several computer programs that track students progress as they "play" through the lessons. However, the computers are located in a fixed zone area of my classroom, and this is hard for students in other zones to use them. I am trying to get 3 Google android tablets funded for my classroom, to teach in all areas of the classroom and during the dreaded transition time. If you are interested in any of my TPT Store items I would be happy to send them to you if you donate to my project. There are only a few days left to double your donations using the promotion code INSPIRE. Thank you in advance for your support.

Manic Monday Freebie

Thanks for hosting Manic Mondays at Classroom Freebies. I started this project this weekend after going to a professional development on text to speech reader software programs available in my district. I liked how one of the programs highlighted the text, but you could not put pictures with it. So I combined what I liked in what I saw and made this simple pre primer level book in power point. My voice sounds kinds goofy in some of the slides, so you can delete the sound files and make your own if you'd like. I would like to make more, but need feedback on how everyone likes them. One thing I want to do is practice making my voice to sound more natural and not so robotic. Please let me know what you think.

Photo a Day Teacher Challenge and September Currently

I just love linkys. They keep me motivated to blog, and I promise I will do better this school year and blog at least once a month. (I'm already on a roll)

I started this challenge yesterday when I came across Clutter- Free Classroom's post.  I think this is going to be a fun way to take more pictures. I am using instagram to post all my pictures, feel free to

Instagram
The best part of this challenge is you don't have to actually take a picture everyday, you can make one post for the whole week or however you would like. The most fun is to see how people interpret the prompts.

Listening - I must need some peace and quiet because I did not even think about turning Pandora on.

Loving - With today off we only have four days left.

Thinking - Wow this year has flown by, but it is my favorite month because it is my Birthday Month.

Wanting - We have been in our new house for almost 3 months and still do not have a kitchen table.

Needing - I knew I shouldn't have bought them. I'm addicted to wintogreen life saver mints.

My Goals this month

1. I have been running a monthly 5K and my time keeps improving so I hope I do better this month too.
2. I really want to build positive relationships with my parents, they really respond to frequent communication.
3. I have finally started reading The Hunger Games book two. I want to finish it in a reasonable time.

We survived...the first week!!!!!!

I am very pleased to say that my paras and students are amazing. We survived the first week of school without any major problems. We even had a para sub one day. I have five of the same students I had last year plus two new ones. I did loose one para position so I have two paras this year and the same amount of children, which has been the most difficult transition.

My students just picked up where we left off in June, which kinda worries me because I'm wondering when the honeymoon phase will be over. I'm sure next week we will see more behaviors as the demands increase and the material gets harder. I have almost set up every rotation in my zones. I need to begin teaching the students to work on the work tasks system during independent rotation time, but haven't quite gathered all my materials yet. I have been cutting and velcro-ing like a mad man this extra long weekend and even recruited some family members to help. I will post pictures of my classroom set-up next week sometime.

August Currently

I am linking up for August currently by Farley at Oh' Boy 4th grade. I completely forgot about the July link up, but I am ready for August and all the craziness that comes with going back to school.
